Collaborative network for adolescent nutrition and health in sub-saharan Africa and India(talent) Focus group discussions were conducted in major and minor boys and girls from villages. This project was implemented in 9 centers across the globe (Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Kenya, South Africa and 4 places in India – Mumbai, Pune, Mysore and Dervan). Three themes emerged from discussion: Adolescents’ basic dietary and physical activity needs were rarely met by the resources available and infrastructure of the villages. Africa and India Research findings and scientific publications from our landmark study The Walawalkar Sukanya Yojana earned international recognition when its “Dervan pattern” became
the foundation for TALENT – Transforming Adolescent Life through Nutrition. This global initiative, led by
the Medical Research Council, U.K. and the University of Southampton, builds on Dervan’s model to improve
adolescent health and nutrition worldwide.
