SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAC)

B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College, Hospital, Diagnostic & Research Centre (BKLWH) working towards initiation of innovative projects in medical field for the betterment of rural people. In order to take the hospital to the next level, it is necessary for us to get ourselves involved in integrated, locally relevant research in healthcare, which will not only benefit people of Konkan, but also people from all other Low & Middle income countries . For this, fresh and new ideas from the experts in the field, who genuinely want to contribute to the upliftment of mankind, are needed. We want the brightest stars in the field to guide us, and to show us the right path for our future journey.

With these aims in mind Scientific Advisory Committee of our College & hospital has been formed in 2016.

The constitution of the committee is as follows

Padmavibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar,
Chairman

Dr. Anil Kakodkar, an Indian nuclear physicist and mechanical engineer. He was the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and the Secretary to the Government of India. He was Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, from 1996 to 2000. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honour, on 26 January 2009.
Apart from playing a major role in India’s nuclear tests
Asserting sovereignty, Kakodkar champions India’s self-reliance on thorium as a fuel for nuclear energy.

Padmabhushan Dr. T. Ramasami,
Member

Dr. Thirumalachari Ramasami is former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology. Prior to this assignment, he served as the Director, Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, India. He is a distinguished researcher and leather scientist. He was awarded India’s National Civilian Honour, Padma Shri for excellence in Science and Engineering in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, the highest award for science in India, for notable and outstanding research in Chemical Sciences, in 1993.

Dr. Shripad D. Banavali,

Director Academics, Prof. Dept. Of Medical & Paediatric Oncology; Coordinator, TMC- Rural Outreach Program; Tata Memorial Centre; Convener Board of Studies (Health Sciences), Homi Bhabha National Institute; Chairman Elect, Indian Paediatric Haematology- Oncology Group.
He is Member of various Scientific Review Committee; Data Safety Monitoring Board & Ethics Committees since 1998. Member of various ICMR Committees in the past & Member of SEC of DCGI since last nearly 10 years.
He has carried out many projects / Clinical Trials & published 288 Scientific Papers in various peer reviewed journals.

Shri Jayantkumar Banthia
Member

Shri Jayant Kumar Banthia is a 1977 batch, IAS Officer who served as the Former Chief Secretary, Govt. of Maharashtra. He acquired a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Kanpur University and in Demography from London School of Economics. Prior to taking over as Chief Secretary to Government of Maharashtra, he was the Additional Chief Secretary in the Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra.

Professor of Mechanical Engineering,
B. Ravi is Institute Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He is the founder and PI of Biomedical Engineering & Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC). Earlier, he headed Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship and continues as its associate faculty. He is Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering and Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellow.
Prof. Ravi led and mentored collaborative R&D projects in metal casting (Auto CAST, E-Foundry, SMART Foundry) and med-tech (BETIC, Collab. DDS, Ortho CAD). These led to 60 patents and copyrights, most licensed to start-ups or industry; 8 products have reached the market.
As a Member of Governing Councils of several institutes and member of expert committees of government agencies (AICTE, BIRAC, BIS, DBT, DST, ICMR, MoE, MeitY and NITI Aayog), Prof. Ravi contributes to vision setting, project reviews and policy recommendations. He is committed to strengthening the ecosystem connecting research, education, innovation and entrepreneurship (R.E.INV.ENT).

Dr. Arvind Natu

Professor & Coordinator – IISER Chairman – Board of Governors, IISER
Dr. Arvind Natu is the Chairperson, Board of Governors, and IISER Kolkata; nominated by the President of India in his capacity as the Visitor for IISER Kolkata, and the appointment is for a period of three years. Currently an Honorary faculty member at IISER Pune, Dr. Natu has been associated with IISER Pune since its inception and has been extensively involved with outreach activities and infrastructure development at the institute. He was formerly a Senior Scientist, CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory, Pune with research interests in combinatorial and bio-organic chemistry, and biology in drug discovery. He is recipient of the German ‘Cross of Merit’ which is conferred to foreign nationals by the Government of Germany.
