Antenatal care for healthy mother and healthy baby Early marriages, multiple pregnancies, poverty, alcoholic husbands, insufficient food, and heavy physical labour on the farm/home lead to malnourishment in most women within the Konkan region. To strengthen the roots of society, the hospital decided to concentrate on the health of pregnant women. A team of doctors & nurses was formed, well-equipped with medicines and ‘nutritious ladoos’; these teams visit the villages, treat the poor & malnourished pregnant women right at their doorstep to ensure safe, healthy delivery and post-recovery. This has led to reduction in maternal mortality rate and improvement in birth weight of newborns.
