B.K.L. Walawalkar Hospital, Diagnostic & Research Center (BKLWH) has been working towards initiation of innovative projects in medical field for the betterment of rural people. In order to take the hospital to the next level, it is necessary for us to get ourselves involved in integrated, locally relevant research in healthcare, which will not only benefit people of Konkan, but also people from all other Low & Middle income countries . For this, fresh and new ideas from the experts in the field, who genuinely want to contribute to the upliftment of mankind, are needed. In his inaugural address Dr. Kakodkar said that the increasing number of Cancer patients in the country is one of the major cause of concern. In a country like India it is not that easy to totally control (the spread of) Cancer disease. However, Tata Memorial Centre and BKL Walawalkar Hospital are jointly reaching to the rural population of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts for creating awareness about Cancer. It is commendable on their part to go to the remotest corners of these two districts in search of Cancer patients and treat them. This will certainly facilitate the process of bringing the disease under control.
Appreciating the Hospital he further said that BKL Walawalkar Hospital is really doing its best to reach the modern medical facilities to the rural poor people.
“Padmashree” and Maharashtra Bhushan Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar, an Indian computer scientist of international repute who is also best known as an architect of PARAM Supercomputers visited Walawalkar Hospital.

The initiative would include spending on health, vocational traning, education & other basic needs of people in Ratnagiri District & would need help from BKL Walawalkar Hospital for the same.
