Infrastructure

The B.K.L Walawalkar Rural Medical college has a unitary campus for hospital and college. In order to promote academics and research it has:

1. Skills Laboratory

B.K.L. Walawalkar Rural Medical College has a Skills Laboratory where students can practice and improve skills pre-specified in the curriculum. The purpose of the skills laboratory is to provide a safe and non-threatening environment for students to learn, practice and be observed performing skills in a simulated environment thus mitigating the risks involved in direct patient exposure without adequate preparation and supervision. The skills laboratory attempts to recreate the clinical environment and tasks which future health care workers have to perform with various levels of complexity and fidelity.

The skills laboratory covers total area of 600 sq.M and has following facilities –

i) 04 rooms (preferably 08) for examination of patients or standardized/ simulated patients
ii) 01 room for demonstration of skills to small groups
iii) Area for review or debriefing area
iv) Rooms for faculty coordinator and support staff
v) Adequate space for storage of mannequins and/or other equipment
vi) Facility for video recording and review of the interaction for teaching communication skills
vii) Stations for practicing skills individually or in groups.
viii) Trainers or mannequins required to achieve skills outlined in the competency based undergraduate curriculum document are available.
ix) A dedicated technical officer and adequate support staff is available round the clock.
x) The teaching areas of the skills lab have provision for audio-visual and internet facilities and are enabled for e-learning

2. Central Library

Having spacious reading rooms which are well lighted and ventilated and have a sitting capacity of 200 students. Currently library has more than 8600 books and 60 National and International Journals are subscribed annually. The central library has a Digital Library having 25 P.C. with internet connectivity. It has facility for online M.U.H.S digital library access which has more than 13,000 journals and 1300 books available through internet. The library also has xerox and photo copy facility.

3. Lecture Theatres

The Medical College has 3 air-conditioned Gallery type lecture halls with audio-visual aids to accommodate 120 students and 1 Gallary type lecture hall in hospital with audio-visual aids to accommodate 150 students.

Examination Hall

The medical college has separate, well ventilated examination hall with all amenities to accommodate 250 students.

5. Central Clinical Laboratory

A state of art central clinical laboratory is available with well equipped and sophisticated instruments like fully automated chemistry analyzer, electrolyte analyzer, chemi-immunolescence facilities etc.

6. Central Research Laboratory

A central research laboratory is available and functioning with all infrastructure and staff.

7. Blood Bank and Blood Component Unit

A specialized blood bank and component’s unit is present in the hospital premises. The blood component unit is only one of its kind in the whole of Konkan region of Maharashtra.

8. Central Photographic section and Audio-Visual Section

A modern and well equipped central photographic section and Audio Visual section is present with dark room facilities. This section would be of immense help in research and documentation of academic activities.

9. Computer Lab

Air-conditioned Computer room with Internet facility is available in Central Library with 25 nodes

10. Common Room

Separate common rooms for Boys and Girls with attached toilets are available in College

11. Central Workshop

A well equipped independent workshop for repair of mechanical, electronics and electrical equipment is present in the premises.

12. Medical Education Unit

This would provide for building up the teaching capacity of academicians, the Unit has adequate facilities for conducting teaching and research methodology workshops and on-going in house training programs.

13. Intercom Network

The entire medical college and hospital campus is provided with intercom facilities.

14. Residential Facilities

Comfortable residential and recreational facilities are available for teaching and non teaching staff.

15. Hostel facilities

Separate Boys and Girls hostel facilities are available. Boys Hostel has a capacity of 174 and Girls Hostel has the capacity of 240. The College has provision for 100% of the total intake of students in Hostels. Each hostel room has two occupants. The size of such room is 27 sq.mt.
Each student is provided with independent and separate furniture which include chair, table, bed and full size cupboard.
Each hostel has a visitor room, a study room with facilities for computer and internet. There are recreational facility rooms having T.V., Music, Indoor games etc. and messing facilities for the students.

16. Cafeteria

Cafeteria and Canteen facilities are available for the comfort of patients and staff.

17. Mess

Separate mess for Boys and Girls at Hostel.

18. Medical Stores

A medical store is present in the campus for the convenience of patients and staff members. It is well stocked with all the medicines and consumables required for the day to day functioning of the hospital.

19. General stores

The residents of the campus can have all their necessities satisfied as a general stores in located in the premises itself.

20. Sports Complex

A well equipped Olympic standard sports complex is constructed in the premises of the Medical college which has facilities for sports activities like Badminton, Basketball, Volley ball, Football, Table tennis and swimming pool. A modern Gymnasium and Gymnastic hall is available. Full time dedicated staff including a Sports Director over see the functioning of the Sports Complex.

21. Electricity

Continuous 24 by 7 electricity supply is ensured in the primises with adequate generator back-up facilities.

22. Water Supply and Sanitation

Safe and Continuous water supply is ensured in the medical college, hospital and residential area and the campus also has adequate sanitary facilities available.
